Massive Mulch Fire

in Incident News
on September 24th, 2011

A large mulch fire ignited Thursday morning, September 22. Mulch piles generate their own heat, and commonly ignite themselves. Generally these fires burn from the inside out, so extinguishing them takes alot of time, and even more water. It took over 6 hours to extinguish and over 13 departments to provide Mutual Aid, most of them providing tank trucks to supply the high demand of water that was being dumped on the 40 foot tall pile of mulch.
